WOW! Best season opening ever in Chamonix! In a few days it turned around from nice clear fall weather to full on winter. First we got a meter in 24 hours, then it snowed another meter in the next 36 hours. This conveniently happened two days before the opening day of the Grands Montets. For the first couple of days they only opened the lower lifts, but the tree coloires down to the valley were all time. Then tuesday the 10th the Bochard lift opened with less than a hundred keen skiers getting after it. Every run was outstanding, but Lavancher all the way to the bottom in perfect conditions might stand out as the run of the day.
I absolutely love early season skiing in Cham, no lift lines, good friends and great conditions are a good combination. I also like it here when only a few lifts are open as this means that a short skitour can get you an amazing untracked run. Quality over quantity any day for me this time a year. It looks like we are getting a pretty serious "top up" in the next few days to!
